The F4 key applies the same formatting that was previously applied to another cell so if I change the back fill colour to yellow, move to another cell and press F4, the current cell back fill is also changed to yellow.

Excel Keyboard Shortcuts - Excel How To

Note that this does not apply multiple formats so if I set backfill to yellow, font style to italic and font colour to red in that order , F4 on another cell just changes the font to red. You just saved me another hour of trying to figure out how this keyboard works!

Thank you good sir. Problem F4: I had the same problem during a trainin where one of the participants had a HP laptop. In the setup of the laptop he could change this: so now F4 is F4 again. But again and again faceing this ponlm. How to solve this ponlm. You are a magician - thank you! F4 was my go to key for "repeat last action" action and it drove me nuts that I couldn't use it. Now I can! Thanks so much; this has been driving me crazy since i recently got a new work computer Dell Inspiron.

My keyboard has a function lock that was on, I pressed the function lock key that looks like an F in a square box followed by the word lock, and then F4 worked for changing cell references. Move around within a spreadsheet

Hi Wyatt, I ran into this in class the other day. Apparently you can also use the Windows button instead of FN. However, the point is, MS has ruined a perfectly normal shortcut that has been with us for about two decades. Who the hell decides these things??? Certainly not us. Nice one. Pressing the FN and F4 key simultaneously solved the trick.

I kept searching after my last post 03 Oct and found a solution. The setting is not Windows related, it is PC related. Need to update BIOS. Just bought a new HP running Windows 10 and Office I have the same problem as the original article.

The same with F2 - instead of editing, my screen dims. By holding the Fn key before pressing the keys, returns to the expected functionality, which is a part solution. I use these functions all the time.

I'd rather hold down Fn if I want to switch display like almost never! Anyone have any idea?
